Quick checklist before you start
- Have your Trezor device (Model One or Model T) and its cable ready.
- Make sure you have your recovery backup written on paper and stored offline.
- Download Trezor Suite from the official site and verify its signature if possible.
- Do not share seed words with anyone. Trezor support will never ask for them.
Step-by-step: Initial setup
1. Install Trezor Suite
Download the official Trezor Suite desktop app (Windows/macOS/Linux) or use the web app. Prefer the desktop installer for long-term use.
<!-- Tip: point users to the official download URL -->
2. Connect and verify device
Plug in your Trezor. The Suite will detect the device and guide you through a device authenticity check and firmware install if necessary.
3. Create or recover wallet
Choose Create new wallet to generate a fresh seed (write it down!). Choose Recover wallet if you already have a seed phrase.
<!-- Model One typically uses 24 words; Model T can use BIP39 word counts -->
4. Set a PIN
A device PIN prevents unauthorized access even if someone has physical access to your Trezor.
Daily use: Accounts, send & receive
Accounts & coins
Enable the coins you want to use from the Accounts page. Each coin/account has its own receiving addresses and transaction history.
Receive
In Suite: choose an account > click Receive. Verify the address on your Trezor device screen matches the one shown in Suite before sharing it.
Send
Select account > click Send; enter destination address and amount. Confirm the details on your Trezor device before approving.
Fees & confirmations
Trezor Suite displays fee presets and network fee estimates. Pick according to how fast you want the transaction to confirm.
Advanced & helpful features
- Swap / Buy / Sell: Integrated partners enable in-app swaps or purchases — these use external services; double-check terms/fees.
- View-only wallets: Import public xpubs to track funds without exposing private keys.
- WalletConnect: Use Suite as a WalletConnect provider for compatible dApps while keeping the hardware device as the signer.
- Portfolio & history: Keep track of asset balances, transaction history and export CSVs for bookkeeping.
Security best practices
- Store your recovery seed offline in at least two secure physical locations.
- Verify addresses on the device screen for every transaction.
- Keep firmware up to date, but only if you have access to your recovery seed before starting an update.
- Enter your seed into a computer, phone, or any website (never typed digitally).
- Share screenshots of your seed or your full transaction signing screens.
- Buy devices from unofficial sellers — they may be tampered with.
Troubleshooting quick fixes
- If Suite shows zero balance after an update: make sure you selected the correct account index and that the device was unlocked when connecting. Recover from seed if necessary.
- If the device is not recognized: try another USB cable/port, enable WebUSB (for web app) or reinstall drivers on Windows.
- For firmware issues: back up your seed, then follow the official firmware update instructions in Suite.
